Inauguration of the Sunday Catechism – 2025

The parish community of Milagres Cathedral joyfully witnessed the inauguration of the Sunday Catechism on 1st June 2025 at 8:00 AM, during the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. The Mass was solemnly presided over by Msgr Ferdinand Gonsalves, with Fr Manoj Furtado, of the Pilar Fathers, concelebrating. The celebration marked a beautiful beginning to the catechetical journey for the new academic year.

As a symbolic gesture of growth and spiritual nurturing, the ceremonial watering of a sapling was carried out at the start of the Mass, signifying the nurturing of young minds in faith and values. The titles of the catechism textbooks for various classes were also highlighted at the beginning of the celebration, drawing attention to the importance of structured faith formation for children.

The inaugural program was well-compered by Fr Pradeep Cardoza, who led the congregation through the meaningful proceedings. A significant and inspiring part of the event was the promise made by the catechism teachers, committing themselves to teach the children with dedication, faithfulness, and love for the Word of God.

The liturgy was beautifully conducted by the children, who took active part in the readings, prayers of the faithful, offertory, and choir, along with the support of other parishioners. Their involvement brought life and vibrancy to the celebration, reflecting the spirit of youthful devotion and community participation.

Adding to the joyous occasion, the church also celebrated the Jubilee of Fathers and Mothers, honouring the gift of parenthood and recognizing the sacred responsibility of nurturing children in faith. It was a touching tribute to the role of families in the spiritual growth of the community.

The celebration also included a prize distribution ceremony. Winners of the Marian Rosary competition, held on 25th May, were awarded for their devotion and participation. Prizes were also distributed to children who faithfully attended daily Mass during the summer holidays, as well as to the altar servers in appreciation of their dedicated service at the altar. This recognition served as a motivation and encouragement for all the children to remain actively involved in parish life.

The entire event was a harmonious blend of faith, dedication, celebration, and community spirit, setting a joyful and hopeful tone for the year ahead in catechetical formation.
