Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur celebrates Elders’ Day with unity and love

Udupi : Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur of Udupi Diocese celebrated Elders’ Day on Sunday, 8th April, 2018 with unity. Prior to the Eucharistic celebrations, the confessions held for the senior citizens in the Cathedral.



The Eucharistic mass was concelebrated by Rev Fr. Charles Saldanha, Capuchin, Ashakiran, Brahmavar along with Very  Rev Fr. Stany B. Lobo and Rev Fr. Rolwin Aranha.

Rev Fr. Charles Saldanha preached am inspiring homily. He said God never forget elders. Elders’ past life and experience help in passing on the message to the next generation. As per the Old Testament, Jacob was taken care of his elders. As such some other instances in the Holy Bible, how the elders were taken care of their close each dear one. Elders are of great value and have much to impart to us, he said.

Followed by the Holy mass, a get together of elders of Milagres parish was held at Milagres Tri-centenary Hall. The programme began with invocation prayer by parish choir team and prayer dance by Milagres English School students.



Dr. Nery Cornelio, Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council welcomed the gatherings. The elders’ participated were warmly welcomed by giving rose to all by the priests. The chief guest and resource person of the day was Dr. Gerald Pinto, former Principal of Milagres College, great thinker, editor, noted writer, lyrist. He gave some tips to elders in regard to remaining their life. Life, as are many things, is often not always about the quantity so much as it is about quality. Aging seniors often face losses in the quality of their lives well before they face the end of their days. Elders should see their mental and emotional needs in order to help them a positive view of life.

Senior most participated in the occasion, Celestine Almieda (89), placed her most beautiful words with satisfaction in her life. The former Administrator of the Church Richard Lewis shared his experience during his tenure to serve the church effectively. Another great former student, former employee, former gurkar and so on spoke his beautiful views before his other fellowmen.



ICYM members conducted spot games for the elders and later distributed prizes for the winners. The gifts on the occasion which donated by Flavia Menezes were distributed to all the elders’ present by the Rector of the Cathedral Very Fr. Stany B. Lobo.

Rector Very Rev Fr. Stany B. Lobo gave his message to the elders of the parish with gratitude. Felciana Lewis Secretary of Parish Pastoral Council delivered vote of thanks. Eugene Rebello compered the programme. The Elders Day concludes with lunch prior to tonic to elders.

Rev Fr. Charles Saldanha, Capuchin, Rev Fr. Lancy Fernandes sj and Rev Fr. Rolwin Aranha were present on the dais.
