A Club with a difference at Milagres Eng. Med. High School, Kallianpur

Udupi : SOCIAL WELFARE CLUB is a new feature this year at Milagres English Medium High School, Kallianpur near here. It is a newly formed club with the slogan “Sharing is Caring.” There are 50 students who are actively involved in social welfare of the poor in and around the school. 


Mrs Sheela is the staff animator with Miss Juwariya and Miss Lisa as student secretaries. Miss Varna and Miss Diya are programme co ordinators.

Regular social analysis, debates and discussions are held on social topics like dowry and its evils, poverty and soon. As part of the outreach programme students this year, good clothes contributed by our school children during the Feast of our Patroness were distributed to the poor at Maria Goretti orphanage, Kemmanu, Spandana and Krista Kripa Orphanage, Kolalgiri. The visit made the students desire the quality of sharing.

As part of another outreach, stationary items brought by students themselves were distributed among the students of government school, Nejar and St Joseph’s Primary school. “All these programmes and many more to come are opportunities to imbibe the spirit of concern and humaneness for the least and the lost, which is the need of the day,” says Fr. Lancy Fernandes, sj, the Headmaster.

After every outreach programme the Headmaster animates the students to reflect on their experience dwelling on the rich experiences and analyzing the societal situation with the paradigm of experience – reflection - action. Future plans include visit to Old age home and a day out at hospital.
