Milagres College : An interactive session on "HIV Positive : A Humanistic Approach"


 

Department of English, Milagres College, Kallianpur organized an interactive session on “HIV Positive: A Humanistic Approach” on 17th July 2017. M/s. Shanthi Noronha, the Project Coordinator at Deepa Jyothi Foundation, Udupi was the resource person.

 

 

 

 

 

 

She spoke about the preventive measures to be adopted by the responsible citizens in preventing this dreadful malice. She discussed at length the consequences of the disease on the individual, family and society at large.

She advised the students to evolve a humanistic approach in dealing with HIV-Positive people. The ‘Positives’ are in need of love and care and they must not be treated as untouchables. The stigma attached to the ‘Positive People’ must be systematically solved by the citizens of the country. The vulnerable people are the poor, uneducated, migrants and careless youngsters. General awareness about the disease is more important among the youth, she emphasised.

 

The Principal Dr Vincent Alva presided over the function. HOD of English Department Prof. Cyril Mathias introduced the Resource Person. Mr. Sandeep Shetty, Mrs. Chandrika, from the Department of English were present on the dais. The programme was compeered by Pratheeksha K of 1 BCOM and Mr. Sandeep Shetty delivered the vote of thanks.
