State level Conference on Child Protection at Milagres College on 16th & 17th November
Udupi : Children are rightful citizens who are entitled to have same rights as any other individual. Children have right to be protected from abuse, neglect, exploitation, violence and unnecessary separation from families. Integrated Child Protection Scheme is the new central scheme which focuses on providing comprehensive services to protect children f from real and perceived danger. Comprehensive services requires effective and efficient work force in the field of child protection. Hence Department of Social Work, Milagres College, Kallianpur in collaboration with UNICEF and Shanthi Sandesha Trust, Mangalore has organized two days State level conference on Child Protection titled “Child Protection – A Need and Opportunity” on 16th and 17th November, 2015, at Silver Jubilee Hall, Milagres College, Kallianpur Udupi.
Talking with media persons at Udupi Press Club on Friday, 13th November, Dr. Nerry Cornelio Principal of Milagres College said that Mrs. Kripa Alva, Chairperson, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Karnataka will inaugurate the conference on 16th November, 2015 at 9.30am. Mr. Sonykutty George, Child Protection Specialist from UNICEF Field office Hyderabad will deliver the keynote address and speak on the importance of institutionalizing child protection services and role of professional social workers for the same. Rev Fr. Lawrence C. D’Souza, Secretary of Diocesan Catholic Education Society, Udupi will preside over. Mr. Pramod Madvaraj, MLA, Mrs. Naga Jyothi, Chief Judical Magistrate of Udupi, Mrs Gracy Gonsalves, Deputy Director of Department of Women and Child Development, Udupi, Rev Fr. Stany B. Lobo Correspondent of Milagres Educational Institutions, Kallianpur and Sr. Clara Menezes, Member of Shanthi Sandesha Trust will be the guest for the day.
Dr. Nery Cornelio also said that Conference has provided opportunity for scholars to present study papers on various topics related to child rights and protection. The best papers will be awarded with “Child Rights Focus 2015” State level research award and a cash prize. Conference will also have the Exhibition of Photos and paintings on child rights products of special need children, and books on topics related to children.
At the valedictory programme Dr. Mohan Singhe, Coordinator of Department of Social Work at Mangalore University will deliver the valedictory note and Mrs. Savitha Kotian President of ZP, Udupi, Mr Annamali, SP of Udupi, Mr B.K. Narayan, President of CWC, Udupi, Sr. Dulcin Crasta Director of SSRDC, and Dr. Nery Cornelio Principle of Milagres College Kalinapur will be the guests.
