Milagres Cathedral observed Ash Wednesday
Udupi : Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur of Udupi Diocese observed Ash Wednesday with devotion and fervor during the Eucharistic celebrations which concelebrated by Very Rev Fr. Stany B. Lobo Rector of the Cathedral along with Rev Fr. Dennis Lobo Superior of Pilar Fathers, Rev Fr. Mahesh D’Souza, Rev Fr. Wilfred Lewis parishioner priest and Rev Fr. Nelson Furtado of Pilar Fathers.
During the mass after the homily by the parish priest Fr. Stany B. Lobo blessed the ash and applied with the sign of cross on the forehead and heads of the congregation with the words that remember that thou art dust, and to thou shalt return. The blessed ashes are then imposed on the faithful as a sign of Conversion, penance, fasting and human morality. The ashes are blessed at least first mass of the day. There were three masses held at Milagres Cathedral in order to the conveniences of the faithful.
The ashes are made from the palms used at the previous Passion Sunday ceremonies. The ashes are christened with Holy Water and are scented by exposure to incense. While the ashes are symbolize penance and contrition.
Very large number of faithful were participated during the Ash Wednesday mass in very early morning at 6.30 am mass. At Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur The Church calls us to seek that mercy during the entire season with reflection, prayer and penance.
