Holy Thursday observed in Milagres Cathedral with devotion

Udupi : Maundy Thursday also known as Holy Thursday observed in Milagres Cathedral of the Udupi Diocese on 17thApril, 2014. The Eucharistic Solemn high mass was offered by His Lordship Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese along with Very Rev Fr. Stany B. Lobo Rector of the Cathedral, Rev Fr. Ferdinand Gonsalves and Rev Fr. Mahesh D’Souza.

Maundy Thursday is the beginning of the three day celebrations of the most important time in the Year for Christians. This period is one big celebration, remembering the last Supper, the crucifixion and the death of Jesus Christ, and the Resurrection to new life. Maundy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles.

During his homily Fr. Stany B. Lobo said that we thank Jesus for giving us Eucharist and Priesthood. Both the Eucharist and priesthood were born during the Last Supper and the two sacraments of the Eucharist and Holy Orders are so closely linked because without the priesthood we would have no Eucharist. He further said that Priest should know his responsibility of Stole and the towel with him for the service of others and for God. Priests involved in many activities. No matter what type of good work a priest does the highpoint of the priest’s  ministry is celebrating the Eucharist. He also pointed out now in the modern era the reasons of failure of families.

He urged to follow the path of Jesus in the families and serve and sacrifice for others as well. His one of the best homily with certain examples reflects the devotees in great manner.

Following the homily Bishop washed the feet of Gurkars and others which symbolizing the washing of feet of His disciples by Jesus Christ and giving them the Commandment that as He Loved them and they should love each other.

After the Eucharistic mass, the Eucharist Sacrament was taken by traditionally to the Alter of Depose by the Bishop along with the priests for Adoration. The Adoration prayers were conducted by Fr. Mahesh D’Souza. The Maundy Thursday ceremony started at 5.30pm and concluded with Adoration prayers till 8pm. Following the end of Adoration the faithful dispersed from the cathedral with silence in anticipation of Good Friday. Very large devotees present during the celebration of Maundy Thursday with much devotion.
