The Blessings of Holy Oils & Chrism mass held at Milagres Cathedral

Udupi : The Blessings of Holy Oils and Chrism Solemn Holy mass held at Milagres Cathedral , Kallianpur of the Udupi Diocese on Thursday, 10th April, 2014. During the Chrism mass the Bishop of Udupi Diocese His Lordship Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo blessed  the Holy Oils that are to be used throughout the year in the administration of the sacraments as well as various consecrations and blessings of person and things.

Earlier the procession of diocese priests along with Bishop from Milagres High School proceeded towards Cathedral for celebration of the mass which Bishop was main celebrant. Bishop pointed out the importance of blessings of the Holy Oils during his homily. Further he said that God of compassion, mercy and love in the midst  of the pain and sufferings of the world Our Son came among us to heal our infirmities and soothe our wounds. He said that The relation between God and the people very strong. God searching for people.

During the mass, the priests in attendance asked to stand and renew the promises they made on their ordination day. This part of the mass to witness the priests who again pledge their lives and their love to Jesus and his church.

Large number of priests of the diocese witnessed the celebration of the mass and blessings of the Holy Oils. At the end after the announcement of the Cathedral Rector Very Rev Fr. Stany B. Lobo, Bishop honoured  to Mr. & Mrs Steven Lewis of Tenkabettu ward with decorated candle for his sponsorship of refreshments after the mass.

Bishop gave his message after the mass and said that most of the people of the diocese not aware of importance of blessings of Holy oils ceremony at Cathedral since two years and so there was poor attendance during the mass. From next year the ceremonial celebration of the Blessed Holy Oils and Chrism mass to be held  in other parishes’ of the diocese.


Vicar General of the diocese Monsg. Dr. Baptist Menezes, Chancellor Rev Fr. Valerian Mendonca, Vicar Forane of five deaneries  and other top officials priests of the diocese were present. Beautiful liturgy and choir, guidance of Cathedral pastoral council members succeeded the beautiful celebration of the mass. Rev Fr. Sunil D’Silva of Pethri Church compered the program during the mass of Chrism.
