Positive Discrimination & Politics of Reservation - An interaction session at Milagres
Udupi :The Equal Opportunity Centre of Milagres College, Kallianpur near here organized an interactive session on Positive Discrimination and Politics of Reservation at Milagres College on Friday, 21st March. The programme was jointly organized by N.S.S. unit of Milagres College and The Equal Opportunity Centre of Milagres College, Kallianpur unit.
Prof. Faniraj of MIT, Manipal was the Resource Person of the occasion. He gave the detailed historical perspective of the dream of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar to uplift the downtrodden population of India, specially the SC/ST and the O.B.C.
The Dalits are discriminated even today. The benefits of reservation policy in reaped by the rich and powerful. The top most jobs in India are enjoyed by the upper caste people who form only 10% of the population. The 90% of the other caste people suffer discrimination in the name of gender and caste.
The Equal Opportunity Cell of the Milagres College trains the students to be empowered. This session highlighted the plight of the Dalits in India today.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Neri Cornelio Principal of Milagres College. Prof. Cyril Mathias. HOD of English, the Convener of SC/ST Cell and The Equal Opportunity Cell introduced the guest. Sachin Secretary of SC/ST Cell welcomed the gatherings.
Other present on the dais were Prof. Annamma and Mr. Nithyananda Shetty. The N.S.S. group leaders felicitated the N.S.S. Programme Officers on the occasion.
