We have to fight against the forces who disturb democracy in India - Prof Pattabhirama Somayaji
Udupi : We have in India today several burning issues that people of the country impatient with other religion, tradition, cultures and so on. We have to fight against the forces who garnish the image of democracy of the country. It’s necessary the teachers can fight against such forces. We need to speak radically. The country is in danger of dictatorship through the means of democracy. So we are living with very disturbing times said by Pro. Pattabhiram Somayaji of University College Mangalore during his Chair Person speech of Valedictory address at two days Seminar held on Innovative Teaching Techniques in English at Milagrees College Audio Visual Hall on Tuesday, 4th February, 2014. Further he said we are not able to design the contents of text. We have much hatred around us particularly at the department of Arts.
Dr. Nery Cornelio Principal of Milagres College presided the occasion. Prof. Cyril Mathias Convener of the seminar and Prof T. B. Baburaj Secretary of A.E.T. were present on the dais.
Prof. T. B. Baburaj spoke during the occasion. Dr. Nery Cornelio gave his presiding address. Some of the college students who attended the seminar gave their views regarding the two days seminar.
Earlier Prof. Cyril Mathias welcomed the gatherings and proposed vote of thanks. Adlin Fernandes compeered the programme.
During two days of State level Seminar there were five technical sessions were held. During the first day Dr. Rajalakshmi N.K. , University College Mangalore was the resource person and the theme was Techniques of Learning Language through Play. The Text was Glass Menagerie. During second session resource person was Dr. T.K. Ravindran H.O.D. of English, SVS College, Bantwal. The theme was Techniques of learning Language through Fiction and text was Legends of Khasak. Later deliberation of A.E.T. held. During the next day third technical session Dr. Charles Furtado, H.O.D. of English, St. Aloysious Evening College, Mangalore was the resource person. The theme was Techniques of learning Languages through Fiction and text was The Bachelor of Arts. During technical session fourth the resource person was Dr. E. Victor Vaz, H.O.D. of English Pompai College, Aikala. The theme was Techniques of learning Language through Fiction and theme was The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. During last session the teme was Techniques of learning Language through Play and resource person was Prof. Prasad Rao, H.O.D. of English, PG Centre, Tenkanidiyoor and text was Yayati.
Several professors were displayed their papers during two days of seminar. Students as well as professors from various colleges of the state were present. Under the leadership of Prof. Cyril Mathias and co-convenor Seema the seminar was grand success.
There will be International Seminar on Globalization, Human Rights and Democracy will be held on 6th and 7th of March, 2014 at Milagres College Silver Jubilee Hall.
