First Anniversary of Udupi Diocese celebrated at Milagres Cathedral
Udupi/Kallianpur,Oct 15 : The First Annivarsary of creation and instalation of Diocese and Thanksgiving Eucharsitic solemn high mass held at Milagres Cathedral here on Wednesday, 15th October, 2013.
Prior to the start of the procession of the diocesan priests and the Bishop Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo along with the Altar Servers began from the Milagres Tri-centenary Hall, Mrs. Eugene Rebello read out briefly the achievements of Udupi Diocese during the last year.
During the solemn mass led by first Bishop of Udupi, Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo concelebrated with Rev Fr. Valerian Mendonca Chancellor of diocese, Rev Fr. J. B. Sequiera Episcopal Vicar of the Religious, Rev Fr. Denis D’Sa PRO of the Diocese, Five Deans of the Diocese, Very Rev Fr. Fredrick Mascarenhas of Udupi, Very Rev Fr. Anil D’souza of Kundapur, Very Rev Fr. John Barboza of Karkala, Very Rev Fr. Stany Tauro and Very Rev Fr. Stany Lobo Rector and Dean of Kallianpur and with around 50 altogather priests of the diocese.
During the start of the celebration Bishop said that the solemn Mass is being offered in Thanksgiving to Almighty God for his abundant blessings and for the wellbeing of all the priests and religious as well as all the faithful of the diocese living within the diocese as well as outside in India and abroad. With the Motto of the diocese in the words of Mother Mary that of do what he says, Bishop also said that we have been doing what Jesus had said in His Gospels.
Shankerpura Church priest Rev Fr. Dr. Leslie D’souza during his homily said that faithfulness of Abraham and Moses in old testament and how they dedicated themselves to the services of God and faithfulness. He started with five words, Biginning, Calling, Blessing, Commitment and Thanksgiving. He said that we have a Pope who broke the cannon law but Pope doing what Christ had done and asked us to do so.Keep faith in God and beginning has been made and we have got call and so we blessed to spread his word and have to give our commitments and we have to thank him for everything.
At the end of the mass Very Rev Fr. Stany B. Lobo Rector of the Cathedral said that we should be happy on the ‘First Birthday’ of the diocese and wish ourselves ‘Happy Birthday’. Introducing the souvenir titled “Ashirvaad”, Rev. Fr. Stany Lobo said that the surplus amount form the proceedings of the souvenir will be utilized for bringing out the diocesan periodical journal or news bulletin in the near future. Thereafter, Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo released the souvenir.
